Make the Street Sing

Working with Scottish street artist SpaceBoy and film directors Blac Ionica to create this Make With A Red Stripe. The animated film utilised the shutters of a fish market in Leith, near Edinburgh. Each frame was scripted, tested and choreographed and then filmed over just three days. The ‘live‘ and physical animation was created by filming the artist pasting up artwork of each frame, tearing it down then pasting up the next frame etc… With each frame change the shutter would be raised and lowered so that when the footage was sped up, the fast moving shutters acted like a make-shift, physical (old fashioned) camera shutter; a bit like a real-world flick book.
